WASHINGTON ( ) – The top White House economic adviser accused Canada’s prime minister on Sunday of betraying President Donald Trump with “polarizing” statements on U.S. trade policy that risked making the American leader look weak on the eve of a historic summit with North Korea.
Larry Kudlow, di,上海419论坛Tamra,rector of the National Economic Council, lashed out at Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau as “amateurish” and “sophomoric” for a news conference he gave after Trump left the Group of Seven summit on Saturday.
The comments, made after Trump had left to go to Singapore for his much-anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, infuriated the U.S. president.
Trump called Trudeau “very dishonest and weak” on Twitter on Saturday and then sent Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro to hammer the message home on Sunday morning news shows in an extraordinary assault on a close U.S. ally and neighbor.
Trudeau’s remarks prompted Trump to pull out of a joint communique that was a fragile consensus on the trade dispute between Washington and its top allies, Kud,上海龙凤419Tatiana,low said.
“He held a press conference and he said the U.S. is insulting. He said that Canada has to stand up for itself. He says that we are the problem with tariffs. The non-factual part of this is – they have enormous tariffs,” Kudlow said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Here’s the thing,” he added. “He really kind of stabbed us in the back.”
In Quebec City early on Sunday, Trudeau declined to answer reporters’ questions about the aftermath of the two-day G7 summit in Quebec.
At his news conference, Trudeau said Canada would,上海千花网Nash, take retaliatory measures next month in response to Trump’s decision to slap tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union. Canadians, he said, “will not be pushed around.”
“There is a special place in hell for any for leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door and that’s what bad-faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference, that’s what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did,” Navarro said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Trump negotiated in good faith on the communique agreed by the other members of the G7, only to have Trudeau criticize U.S. policy after he left, Kudlow said. “It is a betrayal,” he said.
Kudlow also accused Trudeau of trying to undermine the U.S. president at a critical time before his summit with the reclusive Kim on Tuesday.
“POTUS is not going to let a Canadian prime minister push him around on the eve of this,” Kudlow said, using an acronym for president of the United States. “He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to neg,上海419论坛Adam,otiate with North Korea.”
“Kim must not see American weakness,” he told CNN.
MANILA ( ) – A Philippine Supreme Court judge has called on the government to bring China to court for violating the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea with the destruction of coral reefs in a disputed part of the South China Sea.
Acting Supreme Court Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte’s business-focused rapprochement with China, sa,上海419论坛Carly,id the government should seek arbitration and c,爱上海Rainey, ompensation from China.
It was not clear what prompted Carpio’s call but broadcaster GMA News reported on Monday that Chinese fishermen had harvested giant clams and destroyed coral reefs in Scarborough Shoal, a rocky outcrop, 200 km (124 miles) from the Philippines, claimed by both China and the Philippines.
“The Philippines should demand damages from China for the destruction of the coral reefs by Chinese fishermen in harvesting the giant clams”, Carpio said in a statement dated Tuesday.
The Philippine national security adviser confirmed the report about the Chinese activity on the resource-rich shoal which China seized in 2012. It then blocked Philippine fishermen from approaching the area.
Duterte’s spokesman, Harry Roque, said the government would rather discuss the coral destruction with China than file a case as that would only “reverse our diplomatic gains”.
Relations between China and the Philippines have improved markedly under Duterte, while his ties with the United States have been strained, after he objected to U.S. concerns about rights violations in the course of his campaign against drugs.
China allowed Philippine fishermen back onto the shoal in late 2016.
China’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond ,上海419论坛Raferty,to a request for comment on Carpio’s call.
In 2016, the Perman,上海千花网Jada, ent Court of Arbitration in the Hague rejected China’s extensive claims in the South China and ruled that Scarborough Shoal was a traditional fishing ground of Filipino, Chinese and Vietnamese fishermen.
China refused to recognize the ruling.
